Mt. Vernon Exploratory School offers many opportunities for enrichment and student leadership. We pride ourselves on offering these opportunities in order to build skills needed to succeed during elementary, middle, and high school years.
News Crew – Open to 5th grade students. Members are chosen based on teacher recommendation. Team members are responsible for producing the morning announcements show, creating the monthly school newsletter, and creating content for hallway monitors.
Safety Team – Open to 4th and 5th grade students. Members are chosen based on teacher recommendation. Team members are responsible for helping students during breakfast, checking safety lights and doors and for ensuring that all fire extinguisher cabinets are free of debris.
Running Club – Open to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. All interested students are accepted. Each spring, students train twice a week for 6 weeks in preparation of the Hall County Fit Families 5K.
School Musical – Open to 4th and 5th grade students. Students audition for parts. Each year students perform in a school musical. Recent plays include Annie Jr., Seussical the Musical Jr., Alice in Wonderland Jr., and Shrek The Musical Jr.
Chorus – Open to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. All interested students are accepted. Students practice and perform and various events and locations during the holiday months.
Club Tome – Open to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. All interested students are accepted. Students read 6 required books and participate in various competitions including reading bowl, video competitions, poetry, and other writing competitions.
Coding Club – Open to 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. There are four coding club sessions throughout the school year. Students learn the fundamentals of coding through the use of multiple kinds of robots and activities.
Math Mania – Get ready for the big competition with these resources!
